Event Details

We are delighted that our March event will focus on Low Carbon Construction and on the most iconic visitor attraction in the UK, the Brockholes Wetland & Woodland Nature Reserve Visitor Facilities in Preston  with Mansell Construction offering CIOB and LCBPC  members an opportunity to view the site prior to handover in spring 2011.

You will need to select 'tickets' for both the talks AND the site tour

Numbers for the site tour are limited to a first come basis with a maximum of two places per organisation.  When the event is full you will be placed on a reserve list.  PLEASE do not register if you are not 100% certain you will attend.

The event will kick off with short (10min) presentations from

  • Terry Burke, Manchester City Council and NHCW: importance of a low carbon focus for construction
  • David Inman: Waste Regulations
  • Joe Moxham: Measuring Construction Carbons at Carefoot

followed by

  • Brockholes -  a brief presentation from the team on site covering the challenges and approach.
  • an opportunity to visit the works in progress. In compliance with Mansell health and safety procedures all visitors will receive a site induction and be required to provide full PPE including boots, helmet and gloves.

The event will be co-chaired by Martin Brown (fairsnape and Chair Lancs BPC) and Henry Curtis (Mansells and Chair Liverpool BPC)

This event is part of the UK Climate Change week

About  the Brockholes Wetland & Woodland Nature Reserve Visitor Facilities

The state of the art visitors’ centre boasts a design so unique it will be the first of its kind in the UK. The vision for Brockholes was to design a suite of visitor facilities to inspire and encourage people to visit the site and engage with the natural world. The facilities will include a café, shop, gallery, education, and meeting rooms.

The project is zero-carbon and has been given a BREEAM “outstanding” rating the first in the region.
